Travel insurance and health disclaimer

Good travel insurance protects your trip and, for Schengen visas, is often mandatory. This page explains what we do, what we don't do, and what you must check yourself.

Guidance, not insurance advice

Oxford Holidays is a travel consultancy, not an insurer or insurance broker. We can explain the cover levels typically required for Schengen visa applications and highlight features worth checking, but the decision to buy a policy — and its suitability for you — is yours.

Insurance policies are contracts between you and the insurer, subject to the insurer's own terms, exclusions and claims process.

What Schengen applications usually require

Schengen visa applications generally ask for travel medical insurance that:

  • Covers the entire Schengen area for your full travel dates
  • Provides at least €30,000 of emergency medical and repatriation cover
  • Is valid from a recognised insurer with documentation you can present

Always check before you buy

Whichever policy you choose, confirm that it:

  • Matches your exact travel dates and destinations
  • Covers pre-existing medical conditions you have declared
  • Includes the activities you plan, such as winter sports or cruises
  • States exclusions, excesses and the emergency assistance process clearly

Medical declarations

Failing to declare a medical condition can invalidate a policy. Answer every insurer question fully and honestly, and keep a copy of your declarations with your travel documents.

Health preparation

We do not provide medical advice. Before travelling, check official guidance such as the NHS Fit for Travel service and your destination's entry requirements, carry prescribed medicines in original packaging with supporting documentation, and speak to a medical professional about vaccinations or health concerns.

Making a claim

Claims are handled by your insurer, not by Oxford Holidays. Keep policy documents, receipts and incident reports safe, and contact your insurer's emergency line as soon as an issue arises.
